On Mandela Day, 18th July, the spirit of Ubuntu was spread throughout the world by millions of people to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela. But in South Africa, the day is especially dear to our hearts.
People came out in numbers to spend 67minutes of their time in helping various charitable organisations and initiatives. That’s the great thing about South Africans – whenever there is a crisis and help is required, our people show up, dig deep into their pockets, and volunteer to help wherever they can.
Sekunjalo Group employees were no different. Hundreds of staff from KZN, Gauteng and the Western Cape grabbed the opportunity to spread love and kindness by preparing crates of sandwiches, distributed hundreds of food packs, planted seeds for food gardens, provided blankets, shoes, and clothing to the vulnerable and needy, and collected and distributed books to underprivileged children and families, and so much more.

A Sekunjalo volunteer said, “I feel so fulfilled after our sessions today. We should do this more often. There are so many needy people in our communities, in neighbouring provinces, who wait for handouts. Those of us who are more fortunate than others should take more time-out to share – be it food, a smile, clothing, anything really – to make the homeless and poverty-stricken people around us feel humane, cared for, and a part of our society. It is in our hands to make a difference.”
Staff members were thrilled to be a part of spreading goodness, peace, unity, empathy, and compassion as they prioritised the common good over personal interests.
Amidst the challenging times we are facing, a more compassionate approach can lead to a prosperous nation. Leading with integrity and kindness can create a brighter future for all.
